hi all,

I have recently purchased the V663 and I'm currently running a 5.1 setup. My front speakers allow me to bi-amp them.

I have read many posts and stuff regarding bi-amping, and it seems in general its a good idea.

What i want to know is, does the bi-amping the front speakers do funny things when im playing 7.1 content (i.e. Blu-ray content)? I know i have to tell the amp that the spare 2 channels are being used to bi-amp.

PCHI,

Bi-amping your fronts will not do anything funny when playing 7.1 content. Your AVR is already accounting for the 5.1 speaker set-up, with or without bi-amping, and is matrixing any 7.1 surround back content to your surround speakers.

FWIW: Bi-amping from the same receiver is unlikely to produce any noticable sound improvement, since all speakers are still being driven by the one power supply in the AVR. A much more likely path to improved sound is to add an outboard separate amplifier to power some of your speakers, but this does involve a significant extra cost.
