i picked up the above receiver since it was half off at Frys.
I have polk 70 monitors and the matching center channel
i ran the speaker setup using the mic it came with, the problem is the sound is very low.
the volume range goes from -80 to + 15
i first played a BD concert using my PS3 I could only begin to hear music when I was at +2 and it was still low, also tried radio and turned it max and not loud at all
I next hooked up my iphon using the usb and same problem I would think at volume 0 it should be loud
O already checked mute

any ideas?

I think most of calibrate our systems where "0" equals 70 db. You should be able to go back in and auto cal using a higher master level and this should get you were you want to be.

Thanks for the reply

I am not clear on having to calibrate the volume?

When I tried the radio I turned up the volume to the max, and on a loudness scale of 1-10 it was about a 1.5?

I am reading through the manual and notice that there is a voltage selector switch on the back of the receiver which I never checked, you can switch between 120V & 240v
I am wondering if maybe its on 240V, I will have to check after work.

the 240 is for Europe as they have different voltage.... If it was on 240 it would have burned out, unless I am completely crazy.. heh

From my experience with a three year old and one year old model yamaha [the auto-cal changed between those years] it doesn't set the volume display to a reference level. The issue is likely somewhere else, but resetting the receiver to default and seeing if that solves the problem is a good start. Double check your speaker connections etc.

I called tech support today and we reset to factory settings and everything works now, not sure if it had something to do with the ypao auto configuration.

I am thinking about returning it for a new one just for peace of mind.

on a side note the Yamaha is replacing my Marantz SR4001 and when I switched them out wow what a difference in the build, the yamaha feels like a toy compared with the Marantz receiver.

thanks
