Yamaha RX-V571 trouble

I just bought the V571 last week. Inputs to it are:
HDMI 1: Samsung BD-P1600 Blu-Ray player
HDMI 2: DirecTV receiver
A/V 5: Wii console

All route to the single HDMI output which goes to an Optoma HD20 1080p projector. Satellite and the Wii worked just fine and I thought all was good. Then I tried the BD player yesterday and the video feed from it is interrupted every half second or so with a "static" b/w screen.

Debug:
Its not the Blu-Ray disc. It happens on the Samsung splash screen as well as when playing the disc.
I replaced the BD HDMI cable with the one from the satellite receiver. Same issue.
I bypassed the V571 altogether and went from the BD player directly to the projector via HDMI. Then it worked fine.

Is this a settings issue?

Thanks

p.s. I also tried plugging the BD player into a different HDMI input on the receiver with no luck.

I know that I've seen this issue on here before, but I forget the details. Try doing a search, and hopefully someone who does remember will see this thread and chime in.

It might be a long shot, but have you installed the latest firmware for your blu-ray player? The latest version was released on October 19, 2011.

EDIT: Also, if you haven't already, check out the bottom of page 84 of your Yamaha owner's manual where it discusses troubleshooting for not getting video from an HDMI connection.

Are you 100% certain that the HDMI is not picking up interference from a power cable or something else nearby?

Also, I discovered a bad cable on my setup recently when I tried to make some changes. The funny thing on my problem was that the bad cable worked perfectly when going from the cable box to the reciever, but when it went from the reciever to the TV I would get something similar to your description when playing XBOX or PS3, but not from the cable box feed.

From searching more about this issue, it sounds like its either heat, signal interference or the receiver itself. Was really surprised (and disappointed) to see this problem pop up as much as it did with other owners. This should be plug and play without having to run down BS problems.

Since I just bought it I can take it back no problem. Can you guys recommend an A/V receiver comparable in price/performance to the V571 that is more reliable out of the box?

Thanks

Be careful! You don't know if it is the Receiver or BD player that is out of HDCP code compliance.

You have the dreaded common problem of repeater HDCP code handshake issues.

The fact that the BD player works when connected to the TV means nothing.

You see a TV is an end device and only is required to make one initial handshake.

A receiver has HDMI inputs and outputs, and is required to make continuous repeated handshakes.

Your handshakes are delayed and continuously interrupting the program.

First thing to do is to confirm that both units have been HDCP certified.

I know your receiver is, but I understand quite a few Samsung BD players are not.

You can pretty much bet it is the non certified one that is the problem.

Also in BD players the codes are revised fairly frequently. Just because your receiver is new, does not mean it has the latest software and HDCP codes. So it is vital you check that both your Yamaha receiver and your Samsung BD player have the latest software.

Fortunately my Oppo now tells me at switch on if I need to download new software.

Since I have owned it, I have twice tried to show a movie to a full theater and had to down load software before the viewing can begin.

I also find this a pain, and I doubt prevents any serious pirates.

Thanks for the responses.

UPDATE: In the Setup options of Samsung BD player there is a "Movie Frame" setting that when on will limit the output of the player to 24fps when in 1080p or 1080i mode. After I switched it to "On", the issue went away.

This is good but the receiver is rated to be able to handle up to 1080p60...annoying. I have an HD camcorder that records and outputs at 1080p60, if it has this snow flicker problem I will morph into an enraged silverback gorilla and destroy my media room.

Be sure to record that on video! Granted, you wouldn't be able to watch it on your system... :p :D
