Yamaha RX-v557 and external components

Hi there,

I just installed my new yamaha receiver (rx-v557) and seem to have a problem. I have connected my dvd-player, cd-player, vcr and iPod to the receiver but in order to have a decent sound level from the iPod and the VCR I need to turn up to volume almost to maximum. The sound from the dvd-player and cd-player is fine at a much lower volume level.
Has anyone got a clue what explains the difference between the loudness of these different components?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

The Ipod will have a lower volume because its pre out voltage is lower then a DVD/CD players.

As for VCR, all I can say is its a VCR, it won't do anything great ;)

Thanks for the reply Sheepstar,

Obviously I'm still a novice in this area, lots and lots to learn still.
