I recently purchased the yamaha rx v463, and have a few questions about connections.

1. It says it is HDMI 1.2a, does that mean i cant use a HDMI 1.3 cable? I was reading another post about it not going to play sound that well also, if that could be answered.
2. If i have a input from my xbox 360 to my receiver via conponent, will hdmi out to my TV work?
3. Also, could i simply plug in my xbox and dvd player and etc into my TV, and then run optical out from my TV to my receiver- and still get good sound.

Sorry for such newbish questions, as i am new to this.

Welcome to the forum!

To answer your questions:
1. Using a 1.3a cable shouldn't be a problem at all.
2. I believe that will work, but I'll download your manual and double check. [EDIT - see post below. It won't.]
3. I'm pretty sure that depends on your TV. Which model do you have?

Well, according to your owner's manual, your receiver doesn't do any video conversion. So, you can't connect something to one video connection and use a different type of video connection to your TV. So, I was wrong. Sorry about that.

If anyone could please help on if i could connect my xbox/dvd player/etc into my TV which is the Samsung LN-S4041d, and then send that thru optical out to my Receiver and achieve just as high quality as sending hdmi to my receiver then to my TV.

Since i cannot do component IN to my receiver, while using HDMI out to my TV, i would have to buy new connections for everything that im trying to avoid.

Does your TV have HDMI inputs? If so I would run HDMI from your devices to your TV then optical or digital coax to your Reciever.
