Hi, looking for some thoughts w/AV issue. Per title i hooked TV to receiver . Sony remote turns on both TV and AVR. AVR powers up and starts on correct input (Audio1) which was selected thru TV eARC input menu, but no sound from speakers. In order to get sound thru AVR i then have to manually change input on the yamaha to a different input, then back to Audio1 and sound thru AVR kicks in. Look at all settings and get figure out how to get sound at start up. Any help appreciated.

Welcome to the world of HDMI bugs. That bug has surfaced from time to time since the advent of HDMI. The strange thing is that if it was a different TV it might not occur. This is known as a handshake issue, and is something you will likely have to live with. HDMI has been, and continures to be, a cluster you know what!

Do you really need audio from the tv? If you do, what codecs do you need to handle ideally? Might just consider an optical connection instead of ARC

yes seems to be the way to go as learning this is an ongoing issue w/yamaha and sony handshake
