Yamaha RX-V365

Will the RX-V365 play LPCM 5 channel audio through HDMI (from a PS3?). Or is it HDMI video pass-through only? A friend of mine is wanting to start a surround sound setup, but doesn't have a lot of cash to spare, and so I am trying to help find them a decent AVR that will accept the LPCM signal from a PS3 through the HDMI.

If you have any other ideas for an AVR that will meet this requirement for under $300, I would love to hear it.

It doesn't have to "decode" DTS-HD or DD TruHD since the PS3 does it internally, so that is a plus there... just has to accept the LPCM through the HDMI

According to page 11 of the RX-V365 owners manual, this unit does not play audio through the receiver via HDMI, but will pass the audio to the connected display. So if he connects his Playstation 3 to the receiver, he will also need to connect the digital optical cable, unless he wants to use his tv speakers.

Ok, well thank you, that answers that, so does anyone know of any sub $300 AVR that will accept the sound through the HDMI?

No problem... that's what we are here for. Those Yamaha's are quite nice, I really like my RX-V663, especially for the $400 I paid for it, you just can't beat it.

Rx-v365

I can't even manage to get a picture on my TV from my xbox imput to the amp. I am connecting the TV via HDMI to the amp HDMI output and can't get anything from it. If I connect the xbox to the amp then from an AV port on the amp to an AV port on the Tv the picture comes through so there is no problem there...Just can't work out the deal with the HDMI...Any chance of some advice?
