Yamaha RX-V3300, use zone 1 to drive home theater speakers. Zone 2 outputs to series of amps to drive home and deck speakers. Some signal sources sound fine on both zones. However when we use our sony dvd player to play cds some older discs sound fine on both zones, but others; Norah Jones for example sounds distorted, tinny on zone 2 speakers. Curious if others have noticed distortion on zone 2 not evident on zone 1.

Are you using the analog output on the disk player for zone 2??? Is the analog audio also split to another component (like the TV)??? I had my DVD player hooked up analog to both my Sony 40" CRT and my HK recvr (for SACD/DVD-A). I had to disconnect the analog audio from the TV since it sounds distorted (most noticably on Norah Jones and Renee Olstead on my system). What I found was that when the TV was off, it was getting some bleed thru on the analog audio circuit from my Directv recvr (which is always on for Tivo). Now if I turn the TV on the problem would stop...in the end I just disconnected the analog from the DVD to TV since I didn't really need it except the rare ocassion I watch a DVD really late at night and don't want to use the HT and disturb the neighbors.

DVD audio out is analog

The audio outputs for my DVD player are presumably analog. Local friends have indicated that the digital to audio conversion takes place in DVD player. Audio out is through RCA cables to receiver. Audio from DVD is only sent to receiver for distribution.
