I am planning to buy one of the above receivers. Yamaha is THX Select2. Otherwise it looks from the reviews denon is better.

Which one will be better and is select2 is really important

They'll both probably suit your needs just fine. Buy the one that has the features you want/need. Most gripes about receivers in this price class come down to personal preference. Someone won't do their homework before buying and then they get mad when the receiver doesn't do something they want it to.

Do your homework and buy the one that has the features and the layout that you want.

If you need/want HDMI then get the Yamaha, or step up to the Denon 3506.

Yamaha vs. Denon.

To correct the above post, the Yamaha 2600 is comparable in price and performance to the Denon 3806 except that the Yamaha includes upscalling to 720p and 1080i. Last years Yamaha RX-V2500 and Denon 3805 are also comparable mid-fi receivers.

Also note that the new Yamaha RX-V2600 was an audioholics product of the year.
