Yamaha RX-V2600 Subwoofer Issue!

Hi guys,

Here's an interesting question, and perhaps someone knows the answer! For music playback, the only way that I can get my subwoofer to kick-in, is if I tell the Yammy to send the bass to BOTH speakers AND sub... If I tell the Yammy to send the bass only to the sub, nothing comes out of the sub. I've got the high-pass filter on the sub to "off", so it's letting the receiver take control of the situation... Crossover is 80Hz... Maybe I'm missing something here?

i am pretty sure that your yamaha is performing as designed. i own the predecessor (the 2500) and called yamaha about this issue. i believe the only way to get bass to the sub in 2-channel mode is to set bass out to "both", as you already know, or to set bass out to "sub", with the front left/right speakers set to "small" instead of "large".

really? even on my rx-v640 ... I get to use the sub even on stereo mode ...

unless eastcoaster is using DIRECT STEREO, which I have no idea of how it works.

edit sorry wrong term: PURE DIRECT not direct stereo

i am pretty certain the way i described above is how it works on my 2500 and presumably the 2600, when NOT is "pure direct" mode. i think in pure direct mode, there is NO chance whatsoever for getting bass to the subwoofer.

You're awsome! I just checked this out, and when front L/R and back L/R are set to "small" (I had mine to "large"), setting bass out to "sub only" gets the sub going... I had racked my brain over this and couldn't figure it out... To be honest, I think this will also save my speakers a bit more - I'd rather have the sub pick up the slack, rather than tax the speakers. THANKS!

Thanks Mike, for having a look! I think the 640 must be a bit different than the 2600 - not sure why they would do it so you have to put bass out in both speakers and sub if speakers set to "large" - a bit silly to me.
