Just bought the yamaha...but found out it doesnt pass 1080p...the denon 2807 says it does...my sony xbr 40" lcd isnt 1080p anyway...When I buy a blu ray dvd player will It be able to pass through the reciever at 720p or not? I only have i hdmi input and i dont want to have to run more wires...Also who designed the yamaha remote...you need to go back to remote school...sound great though..

HDMI receivers

Both receivers are very capable and will be fine with HDMI at 720p and 1080i.
Add the denon 3806 to your comparison and get the model with the best price and the features you need.
I wouldn't let the remote be a deciding factor. Pick up a good Harmony or Home Theater Master universal remote to control all your gear for $1-200.

Absolutely concur with jcPanny on this one - don't let the remote decide your receiver for you! If you are serious about HT get a Harmony remote for $75-$150 and put all those others in a desk drawer somewhere.

That unit does not pass 1080p as I understand it, stinks!
I do not want to rewire when that issue comes up back and forth.
I want to get the RS232C port working to use with a Laptop to bypass the remote completely so I can stuff the unit in a closet. Anybody know what the communication protocol is? The dealer can't tell me anything, except to buy a Crestron touch screen remote, yea right $$$$'s

Gear in closet

Look for an RF remote. The receiver unit has little RF flashers that you can stick on the IR receivers of your gear. Most RF systems claim a range of about 100 ft through walls, closet door, etc.
The Home Theater Master MX-600 has these features for about $140.

Also, for passthrough of 1080p HDMI, you can always purchase an HDMI switch box in a couple years when 1080p sources and displays are actually available.

Thanks for the tip, but I actually bought a RF remote that integrates into my existing remote. It works great.

I found some info. on enabling the RS232C port and it looks like it will work, then I can have an impressive screen up on all the functions and selections.
