Yamaha RX-V2600: Hdmi and crt-tv

I'm considering replacing my old yamaha reciever with the new RX-v2600. But what I don't quite understand is the "upscaling" option. Does it improve picture quality on my old-fashion crt-tv (no hdmi-in). At the moment I only have cable tv (no digital yet).

If you wish to reply, please keep it simple (I'm from Belgium and my English vocabulary is limited ;-)). Thanks.

Connections to TV

Does your TV have a component video connection? If so, it should accept a 480p signal from a DVD player or the Yamaha receiver. If your TV is an HD model then it should be able to accept a 720p or 1080i signal upscalled by the Yamaha RX-V2600.

If you don't need HDMI and are not concerned about upconversion, check out last year's RX-V2500 for $6-700.
