Warranty options , that's the thing- buying from an unauthorized dealer means no warranty- so unless these guys offer a warranty option to compensate then it may not be a good idea.

Good point, though uBid typically will over a 30-90 day warranty on most of their receivers if they're refurbished. In my experience, if you're going to have issues with electronics, its typically going to be within the first couple of weeks of use.

Something to consider, but there's always a little risk w/the reward... ;) -TD

Not really

Ubid said that have a 30-day warranty policy- that seems too little, and you didn't mention shipping charges. What I suggest doing those is to go to pricegrabber.com and buy from an unauthroized dealer- sometimes they offer their own warrenties from other companies which are better warranty deals.

Example- a warranty costing 40 dollars for 3 years is probably better than the warranty and authorized dealer is entitled too(ie, 2 years on the yamaha but no guarantee od great service). Pick the right dealer and you usually end up withA new receiver and better warranty for less cost .

What's "not really"? Not really a good deal or not really a warranty? A warranty is a warranty, whether its 30 days or 5 years. Caveat emptor...

If you see a better one, post it, that's the point of this forum. If you don't think this is a good deal, look elsewhere. I wrote they "typically will offer a 30-90 day warranty on most of their receivers if they're refurbished", this a fact. In addition to this, all Onkyo receivers they sell have a one year warranty direct from Onkyo. I've been following and using uBid for the past 5 years, so I'm pretty familiar w/most of their workings.

I didn't mention shipping charges 'cause I ain't your momma, I would expect any educated consumer to read the fine print anytime they make a substantial purchase. If they offered free shipping, I would've noted it as I have in several other postings.

In regards to an extended warranty, do you mean something like uBid's Extended Protection? As far as extended warranty service from a third party company, I have only had to experience this once w/a computer and it wasn't pretty. Manufacturer warranties are your best warranty solution, but as I said earlier, with risk, there is usually reward.

I myself have not had (nor have I heard from others) worse experience with refurbished products than I have with purchasing new. If you can find something better somewhere else, feel free to share, that was my intent with this thread... -TD

Well I don't think its a great deal-because

I am pretty sure you can find a refrubished model on ebay for less. As for shipping= you DO need to take that into consideration, Here's why

Some companies charge unrealistic rates for shipping, while shipping the yamaha is $30, some companies wouldn't hesitate to charge $100 for shipping. Example: The Westinghouse 42 inch tv is supposed to cost 40-50 dollars shipping based on real ups rates. However, some companies charge $300 to ship it- I know it don't cost 300 dollars to ship while companies like BB will ship for free, as well as mom and pop stores.

Right now I see it for $759 free shipping on ebay if you click that link-
free shipping. The idea is companies charge a lot for shipping but actually
keep the product. A refurbised unit should be sold for less and No, manufacturers warranties are not the best.

Why?, the authorized dealers themselves handle that and consumers have rated a lot of problems with purchsing from authorized dealers. A warranty from a third part can be superior and it is even offered on ebay from Mack.

With Sony though as long as you have a new product or one where the serial number hasn't been altered you WILL get warranty. As for yamaha the warranty only applies from purchasing from authoirzed dealers.

You do have to read the terms that third parties give you for warranty- its not wise to spend
a lot of money on extended warranties- Did you purchase your computer- from a retail giant that had warranty?

The mack yamaha 3 year warranty was only 40 dollars I beleive
