Yamaha RX V2500 Questions...

I recently bought a Yamaha 2500 and have a few questions...

1. I have component and S-Video sources connected.
a. It appears the AVR does not do OSD over Component is this correct?
b. S-Video sources are not being sent over component....? Don't know why...?
** I have both a S-Video and Component runs going out to monitor, I have disconnected the S-Video to monitor and get no picture from S-Video sources.

** Monitor is Infocus Screenplay 4800 if that makes any difference.

2. As far as setting paramaters on the surround fields. The Sur Int Delay should this be set as the distance from the speaker to the wall behind it or set it as distance to the wall from seat.

RX-V2500 options

This is a complex receiver with many options so check the following settings:
1. Turn upconversion to component video ON to output everything over component video. I am not sure if the OSD works over component but the manual should specify.
2. All speaker distances should be the distance from the speaker to the primary listening position. Run the auto setup using the MIC and double check the results.

Thanks for the reply, so far I've been able to find out that the OSD is not displayed when a progressive signal is being sent over component. I think the S-Video not coming through was just the upcoversion option.

Speaker distances are correct, YPAO did very well. What I'm trying to set is the sound field paramaters... liveness, initial surround delay, room size etc. The manual does not do a very good job of telling you how to set them up. I was hoping someone who had this reciever had already figured them out :)

it's been a while since i set mine up, and i'm not at home where i can look at it. but, i think i ran a single standard yellow composite video cable from one of the receiver's video out jacks into one of my TV's 4 video inputs ("Video 3" in my case). thus, when i need to access mu OSD, i switch my TV over to Video 3 and then press the "Top" button on the remote to enter the OSD.

if i remember, i'll look at how i set mine up this evening and will re-post with additional info.

The same holds true with HDMI & compnonent for the newer 1600 and 2600 receivers.

I set mine up the same way except for no good reason I used a S-video cable.
As far as tweaking the parameters of the sound fields; I don't think there is a set way to them. As JCPanny alluded it's a very complex reciever. I've had my 1500 for over a year now and am still learning and tweaking. Set things to where you think they sound best. You'll probably find yourself changing them in a day or so anyway.

I wouldn't worry too much about the sound parameters yet, just pick the DSP mode that you like best. Also keep in mind that most of the sound field settings only apply to the Yamaha DSP modes, so if you normally use THX, Dolby, or DTS, then you will have no benifit by tweaking these settings.

Something on your new receiver that you might consider trying is connecting the front "presence" channels to an old pair of bookshelf speakers. Some people prefer 5.1 + presence over 7.1.

I think the presence speakers only work in Yamaha DSP modes as well, so if you don't like their Cinema DSP then don't bother using presence speakers. I don't much care for the yamaha DSP modes as they just add a lot of reverb and somewhat distort the sound. This can be demonstrated easily using the click test on the Avia setup disc.

Thanks for the replys, turns out my projector (Infocus 4800)was part of the problem. I can not use 480i and 480p over the same connection (must use different inputs for each). The sound field paramaters are not a big deal, I started experimenting with them last night. I had also noticed way to much reverb but have found that adjusting the surr int delay pretty much cleaned it up.
