Yamaha RX-V2500 enough to drive 4 ohm fronts and 8 ohm center/surrounds?

Thinking about getting a pair of M&K S-150's, which are 4 ohm. Does the V2500 have enough juice to power them in a 7.1ch setup with 8ohms for the center, surrounds, and presence channels?

I asked the same question about my denon 3805 the answer was it's not recommended in a 7.1 set up. :)
So the resident experts will correct me as well?

Assuming 1)you have a subwoofer with crossover frequency set at 80 hz or higher, 2) only the two front mains are 4 ohm speakers, and 3) you don't listen at high level (say, higher than 85 dB continuously), you should be fine with the 2500. Please keep it well ventilated. Obviously adding a 2 channel amp is a better way to go.

Nice speakers, email M&K support support@mksound.com, or call them at 818-701-7010. I've done both and they've always been very helpful.

I've been running M&K 4ohm speakers (whole system) off my Denon 2805 with no problems. See sig for specific speakers. Even though mine are rated at 4 ohms, they don't seem to get my reciever hot. I'm not sure how powerful your reciever is compared to what I've got, but yours should be comparable if not more powerful.

I heard the same info here, so I called M&K directly and they said for my setup a Denon 2805 would be fine. I haven't had any issues using it. I think what brand or model speaker is being used is probably a bigger factor.

I just noticed you are using the LCR650's, those are nice too. Those are rated somewhere between 4 and 8 ohm's, depending on what you look at. The website and the manual that came with mine list them as 8 ohm speakers. The specsheet on them and the label on my speakers list them as 4 ohm speakers. I've seen a lot of this type of inconsistency with M&K's speakers. Again, I'd call or email the factory to be sure.

Thanks all for the responses. I'll give M&K a call and see what they say (this never even occurred to me :). My receiver doesn't get very hot with my current setup, but the S150's are a lot bigger. Originally, i had a much less powerful receiver, so i went with the 650's (the website and docs that came with them list them as 8 ohms). I have seen the inconsistency you've seen too Jack, but i think it's due to them "updating" speakers by putting newer drivers in them then selling them under the same number. I've seen the website info say things like "new 2006 tweeter installed".

I drove a pair of Onix Ref3's (4 ohm), an Onix Ref100 center (4 ohm), two NHT dipole surrounds (8 ohm) and two more 8 ohm NHT dipoles connected to the front 'presence' amp outputs of a Yamaha 2500 with no problems.

You'll get better bass dynamics and definition with a separate power amp, of course.

I really like sound of the Yamaha 2500/4600/2600 receivers.
