Yamaha RX-V2500 Center Amp problem

Ok I have had this unit for about 1 month.
I finally have calibrated it VIA AVIA, after I spent the day doing so.

All my connections via Optical DVD, Dish, have a problem with the center channel.

In dolby digital or DTS, the center channel cuts in and out, it crackles and pops here and there.

If if switch modes it comes back then goes out again.

Defective reciever?

Defective reciever? Most likely.

As long as you have taken steps to rule out any connection or speaker problems, I'd say that's the case.

Time to use that warranty and 'er back for a repacement while there's still time.

I changed the speaker wire, for the speaker.

I can't explain it. Seems like it is only effecting the optical inputs.
My multi-channel analog 5 channel input from my DVD does not have an issue.

The only thing that I don't know if it is good or not is I have my Sub power plugged into the un-switched outlet on the Yamaha

Not good at all. Whether switched or unswitched, the outlets on a receiver are for low power devices only. It usually says next to it something like '100 watts / 1A max'. It's ok to plug in a cd/dvd player there, but not a subwoofer/tv/amplifier/etc.

Enough to fry something out?

First things first

MDS is right. First thing to is change out where the sub is plugged in. Your speaker may be cutting out because of a wattage shortage (very quickly though it may be). Just the same you may have a problem with the receiver, but you need to remove the sub power from the un-switched first.

If you do this and you still have the same problem, well there you go.

If you still end up with this issue, you may also want to try different optical cables. I agree that the sub should not be plugged in to receiver. However, it is strange that you don't get the issue when you use the multi-channel inputs unless you do mean you are only inputing 5 channels and not the .1 or sub. I wasn't sure if this is what you meant when you said:

Good luck!

Yes I meant 5 channel plus sub.
I also had trouble with pink noise distorting on the front left channel when the yamaha was at -15db with a sound meter reading of 75db and higher.

I returned the unit and got a new one, and the problem went away.

However, with the new one it no longer distorts however at like 55db to 65db it crackles and then the distortion goes away above 70db. This is really weird.

This worries me though, as to the reliability of this unit when used a lot.

Testing center channel

After fixing the sub power source,
Try running the receiver in 7 (or 5) channel stereo mode with tuner input. If the center channel still cuts in and out, then the problem is with the amplifier or speaker connections rather than the optical inputs, sources, or digital circuitry.

If it is still "crakling" at any sane volue level, then you still have another issue. It should be crackle-free until you reach a massive level of distortion or you blow a speaker. I have never experienced any crackling whatsoever.

Originally, I had some difficulty plugging a cable into the optical input into my 2500. I may be stating the obvious here, but have you determined if the optical cables are 100% connected?

The system has been working the optical cables are short and completely connected and not bound.

The crackling happened only on the optical inputs in any 5 channel or 7 channel mode, with the center cutting in and out.

After I got the new reciever the problem was corrected.

So I don't know what was faulty, the optical part of the board?
