Just installed Yamaha RX-V2400 receiver with a main room home theatre 5.1 and 4 additional rooms with 2 speakers each. Connected RX-V2400 to a speaker selector box. Was suppose to have Zone 1 (main room) and Zone 2 (other 4 rooms) and be able to listen to 1 source in zone 1 and a different source for zone 2 at the same time. There's no other receiver or amp for zone 2 in my connection (was told I didn't need any). A "pro" installed this, but said he doesn't know how to turn on the RX-V2400's amp for zone 2, so now I can only listen to one source for the whole system. P.73 of the manual: To use the internal amp, select ON in ZONE2 AMP. Does anyone know how to do that-step-by-step? Thanks much! Please help!

I have the HK with two zones. I have no idea how to set up the Yamaha, but it may be similar to mine. With the HK, I have to go into the advanced features and turn on the ‘multi channel’. This is done through the on screen display. When the multi zone is activated, the back surround amps power the second zone. I can listen to two separate inputs at the two different zones. I’m certain that yours can be set up this way as well.

Hi,

First, I have the Z9, but from the looks of it and what the manual says, they operate very similar. But this means I can’t confirm what I’m saying 

I’ll see if it can help anyway:
First, I’m using this manual as my reference.

To operate the Zone 2 power, or pretty much anything else to do with Zone 2, you must use the remote control and make sure that you have programmed that accordingly. (it’s pretty easy to do)

Have you done everything on pg. 73 – 74.
You must set up your remote as they tell you so that is has the functions to control Zone 2. The default is set so the remote is on YPC mode (See pg. 60, step 3). This is not what you want.

Once you have set up the remote as the manual suggests, you just go to the little screen where you select the source and scroll to Zone 2 and have that selected. That means now that your remote is now only operating Zone 2 features, so if you press the power button, it turns on/off Zone 2. If you select the DVD player, the little screen on the remote will show it is the Zone 2 DVD player. And then to go back to controlling you Main unit again, you now select SYSTEM as your source on the remote. On the Z9’s remote, if you scroll up one you get Zone 2, and if you scroll down one you get System, and that is regardless of what source you may have selected already, so they are pretty easy to switch between.

But as I said, all this, Turning ON/OFF Zone 2, controlling which Zone 2 source you want etc, is only able to be easily controlled via the remote, and if that is not set up accordingly you won’t get far. So See Pg. 60 of the manual I posted above, and then go to Pg. 73-74 and follow the instructions there.

Once you’ve done that, see what happens.

Let me know, and we’ll go from there :)

Cheers (hope i didn't confuse anything)

you have the right page (73)
Follow the steps and play with it a little and it will work. I have the 1400 with same remote and after the 2nd or 3rd try I got it functioning so I could use the internal amp to power my CD player on my porch speakers while I have Digital TV playing in main room. Cool features, but the price is the convoluted remote set up. Be careful when you hit the amp & select button. Several times other members of the family have ended up playing hours of TV audio and DVDs for the neighbors without knowing it was going through the porch speakers. There's display on front of amp for zone 2 and 3, but folks who just want to play a movie and don't have a great deal of interest in "how the thing functions" may not pick up on this. Also, once switched on, you can power off the main system and leave the zone 2 playing unless you notice that the little zone 2 text is still lighted on the panel.

There probably is a better way to implement this function in a receiver, but with one remote and all the bang for the buck you get, who can complain.
