Hello all- I frequently review this board, but have just now joined. I know many of you are not huge fans of polk, but I currently have the Polk RTi12, CSi5, and Fxi5 and will stick with those for a while. I'm looking to upgrade from my cruddy Sony Receiver and am looking at both the Yamaha Rx v2400 and Denon Avr 3805. I know I see on these forums that different receiver brand match with different speaker brands better. Which of thes match best with Polk Rti series? Or am I off base on either? There is a small price difference betwee the two, but I really want to get the best match for my Polks. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Any local dealers who could let you audition polks with them? Probably not.
I don't wnat to say this cause I'll be bashed - I think "yammie lovers" like post processing and "denon lovers" don't. Which are you?
Aside from that, I think denons are "sweeter" and can't imagine polks being described that way so a denon may help.
or not.

I actually A/B'd the 2400 against the 2805 at my local Tweeter using Polk RTI's. They are similarly priced (the 3805 is $300 more).
I thought the Yammi was fairly neutral and the Dennon was slightly warmer and had more bass punch when listening to the audio CD's I brought along.
I also brought my LOTR Return of the King DVD with me, and could not tell the two receivers apart.

That said, I think that if you are using it mostly for home theater, the Yamaha would be a good choice, since it has better DSP's, but I would recommend the Dennon if you mostly listen to music.

It was a difficult choice for me, but I chose the Dennon.

Seriously, I have no life.

Only if the speaker impedance warrant such a match up. Otherwise it is another audio misconception that one brand receiver matches with specific speakers. Simply not the case.

Which of thes match best with Polk Rti series?

Is the Polk a difficult load? Is it not sensitive? Which receiver has more power and by how much? Which one suits your convenience needs? Audio is not mysterious although some will make it so.

Or am I off base on either?

Yes, somewhat. ;)

It's a matter of numbers. Power, sensitivity, speaker load, volume needs, flexibility, etc. And $$$ :D
