Hello everyone, I am new to installing audio equipment and need some help. Long story short I wired my Yamaha RX v2400 to my ceiling speakers and sub. Wired RCA cable from TV output into dvd input on the Yamaha and got no sound to play through the speakers. I checked all my wires and connections and I am sure I did things correctly. My main question is: Do I need to setup the speakers with the receiver in a way where the receiver "detects" the speakers? I do not have the remote that came with the receiver, so, do I have to have a remote to do this setup? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

These are a lot more complex than a clock radio.d I unno about your particular unit but, in general, one needs to go through some sort of setup procedure to tell your unit what speakers you have and don't have.

The first line of defense here is your user's manual. If you don't have one, you can download one here under the "support" tab. Happy reading.

Plus, trying to set up one of these hairy beasts without a remote can be cumbersome at best, and impossible at worst.

Yeah – good luck doing any set up without a remote. You can probably find a stock unit on ebay for a decent price – I’ve had good luck doing that in the past.

Thanks you guys. I called Yamaha support and they said to try Logitech harmony. But I think immamtry the eBay route since I'm going to be paying over $40 anyways.
