Dang it...just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in....

Can anyone confirm that this AVR has the ability to set different crossovers for your speakers? (fronts vs. rears vs. center)

That is the one thing I really dislike about Yamaha receivers, you can't set separate crossover points for the different speaker positions... that and the small volume display.

They didnt add that to the new series?

There's no indication that they can be set separately in the owner's manual.

Oh, I just hate that!

Even a $400 HK receiver gives you independent crossovers for Front L+R, Center, Side Surround L+R, Rear Surround L+R, and Subwoofer!

So on a Yamaha receiver (at least the "older" ones), you can just set ONE crossover that is applied to every single speaker?

There is no such thing as perfect, is there?:D

Please...Just wait for the new Emotiva Pre-Pro ($600), will you?:D

Oh, I forgot. You only have 3 channels of amp in your MPS-1.

In that case, order 4 more MPS modules ($200 x 4 = $800).:D

I doubt it. Heck it took them years of me grilling them to even offer variable crossover points as they were fixed on 90Hz for a long time.

Be careful with this feature however as most don't correctly recombine info back to the sub so if you set the mains to 60Hz and surrounds to 90Hz, chances are bass below 90Hz wont recombine to the sub from the surrounds. This is why I always recommend keeping your crossover points either all fixed at 80Hz or within 20Hz of each other.

So maybe this isn't as big of a deal as I thought.

I just thought since my mains go down to 26hz and my surrounds to 43hz it would be a good idea to cross them over differently.

I am not sure I trust EMO enough to try a pre/pro from them.

I guess it's not such a big deal for me seeing as how the majority of my speakers are set to large since they have built in subs, but it's still nice to be able to have the option to vary the crossover.

Yea but at what SPL level?

If your mains have built in subs then run them as large but run the rest of the speakers on small set to 80Hz. If you set the xover too low without the ability to independently set the xover for the LFE channel, you may truncate LFE info to your sub. Gotta be careful as sometimes too many options are NOT a good thing.

Ummm....maybe I dont need a new AVR or Pre/Pro but I would like to have the new codecs.

I need to reconnect my patio speakers(pulled the wires to run the zone 2 into my bedroom) but I was going to wait until I got a new AVR as I dont want to pull out my AVR just to hook up speakers. It is a lot more work then it sounds!

So true, so true. In a lot of things. For me, it's paint and carpet right now. :) My goodness, the sheer number of options are overwhelming to the point that I do nothing. If picking those was as easy as setting up my crossovers, I'd be soooo happy. ;)

I recently posted, somewhere, that the 1900 was rumored to have the capabilty to pass HDMI while in standby. That was actually what I had read about the 3900, not the 1900. I'm not sure if it's true about either, but it sure would be nice for those of us who don't want the HT speakers on all the time.

Just to set the record straight.

Exactly.:D

Did you guys read that clearly?:D

So unless you guys have speakers with BUILT-IN SUBS, you better set them to SMALL.:D
