Thank you. I think it should also be noted that this only applies to those getting their DTS-HD MA via bitstream. I would apply this update right away, but I hate the thought of having to reset every single setting on my receiver.

Good point. I don't plan to install it right away as my HD-A2 won't bitstream DTS-MA anyway.
But will most likely be needing it when I get a BD player.

For any one using the receiver manager; you can save your setting and recall them once the update is done to avoid the need for going through the set-up all over again.

How can I get this receiver manager software?
Some one over at AVS forum posted it a while back.
It's somewhere in the RX-V1800 / RX-V3800 thread in the receiver/amp section.
It's a big thread, try searching it.

Supposedly, it can be obtained from yamaha dealers. So I wonder if the AH store would be able to help. ??

So I guess it's not something I could get for free?

excellent, thanks. So I'm guessing you connect the receiver to your PC with the RS-232 port... Isn't that just a serial connection? Could I use a USB to serial cable?

I'm not using currently it.
The laptop I was going to attempt it with died.
Yes, you go into the RS-232 port on the Yamaha. Not sure about USB to serial adapter. There's lot of guys here more computer smarter than me.

Thanks, If I can just get the software I'm sure I can figure out the rest, I'm pretty computer savvy.

I managed to find the receiver manager for the rx-v1800:

url: dump.ru/files/n/n8372410730/
Works great to backup the configuration of the receiver.

Yann

Thanks, I got the software, and I found that you need a null modem cable to connect the receiver, however I don't have a serial port on my pc or lapto, so not sure how I could connect to the receiver.

I also found this on AVS forum as well, that I thought was interesting.

The DTS-HDMA bug will only affect you if:

You have the complete speaker configuration with both rear surrounds and front presence speakers
You input a DTS-HDMA 5.1 soundtrack via bitstream
You apply one of Yamaha's DSP sound fields

If, and only if, all of the above are true, the receiver will unnecessarily disable the front presence speakers and re-route the presence sound to the mains. As previously noted, the work-around is to explicitly set the rear surround speakers to "none" via the receiver's GUI and then the presence speakers will become enabled.

For any other scenario (including DTS-HDMA 6.1 and 7.1 soundtracks) the receiver will behave as expected and you can leave your settings alone.

Hope this helps.

So it sounds to me like I don't have to worry about the dts bomb if I'm not using one of the DSP modes, which I don't use anyway.

I could be wrong on this, but I think you may be confusing a couple of different issues here.
To my understanding; what is known as the DTS bug, a DTS remapping problem, only happen with the presence speakers and DSP engaged.
The DTS bomb, the loud popping noise, can happen any time the receiver is getting a bitstreamed DTS signal.

yes, you are correct. I posted about that over at AVS and someone cleared it up for me. I still think I'm going to hold off on the update until/unless I get a player that can bitstream. I'm hoping Sony will eventually come out with a new PS3 version that allows bitstreaming, but I'm not holding my breath.

I have the RXV3800 model and had sucessfully updated the firmware. However it did not fix the DTS HD MA popping when I play the "Eagles Farewell Tour - Melbourne" HD DVD. I haven't tried any DTS HD MA Blu-ray discs yet but I am disappointed that the firmware update did not fix the problem. What's my next step?
