Yamaha RX-V1700 Video Output

Anybody know if you can configure the video scaler in my receiver to output 720 on the component output and 480 on the composite output. I use my receiver as the switching device for a DVD, PS3, or Cable. I output to a Panasonic PT-AX200U projector capable of 720 native and a old school rear projection TV that will only accept 480 signals. I wish I didn't have to "Dumb down" my PS3 to output onto my TV.

Composite is only capable of 480i. It cannot output anything higher. I believe the 1700 will downconvert signals input via component and pump them through the composite output. It will not output HDMI signals through ahything other than the HDMI output.

I doubt you can set the receiver to output different resolutions but Hi Ho is right about composite vide outputs. If your cable box allows you to set the resolution to pass thru, as in 'don't change it', you might want to do that to avoid having the cable box scale the SD 480i/480p signals to 720p or 1080i and then having the receiver decimate them back to 480i.
