I would like to purchase the rxv-1500 but would need it for multi room setup. I've read the manual and still unsure if it would be able to do what I'm looking for without adding an additional amp. The main room would be using the 3 front channels to watch movies, the zone 2 would be using the left and right surrounds to play a cd and zone 3 would be for listening to the radio. Also, would there be separate volume adjustments for each zone? Much appreciate any help from owners.

No, the 1500 requires an additional amp to run all 3 zones, only zone 2 can be run off the internal amps.

SoCal,
I think that the newer 1700 and 2700 models with the "intelliAmp" feature can do what you are asking: 3.1 main HT, powered zone2, and powered zone3. Keep an mind that you can only run a single pair of speaker off of each of the powered zone2 and zone3.
