Yamaha RX-V1500 Owners!

Hi new to the forum, I just purchased a Yamaha RX-V1500 in Canada at 2001AudioVideo and when I opened the box and unwraped the receiver I noticed there were no stickers or protective film on the front panel display. I previously had bought the RX-V757 and returned it for the RX-V1500 and it had the film. If there are any 1500 owners who could let me know if theirs came with them, because I have seen the floor models with the stickers and 2001AudioVideo has a habit of repacking demos as brand new. Also I have video upconversion set to on in video settings and have my digital cable box to the receiver via composite and receiver to 27" Sony wega via S-video but video quality is still composite. One more quick question out of curiosity what is the lowest volume db level you get with RX-V1500. Mine goes down to +6db but on screen display level is half way.THXS!

I can tell you my RX-V2500 had the stickers on it. I imagine the 1500 should have as well.

To my knowledge the 1500 does not have video upconversion. I think it has video conversion like the 2500. Can you connect the cable box via S-video. What you put in is what you will get out. It will send the signal out through all the types of connections, but it will do nothing to clean it up at all.

Your last question does not make sense to me. Can you clarify?

video conversion

In the manual it says composite to composite, composite to s-video, s-video to s-video, s-video to component, component to component. Now, does the receiver up convert the signals (say composite to s-video) or does it just transfer the signal in its native form. When i put the receiver on an input with no source to check the maximum volume level, it goes to +6db.But on the on screen volume bar it's only half way.

Video conversion

The receiver converts one video format to another in that it allows you to transmit the composite video signal over the component video medium (cable). It does not improve the quality of the signal. It is not possible to take a composite video source and make it look like component video unless you have a very sophisticated video scaller.

Is 2001AudioVideo an authorized Yamaha delaer? If so, then I would report your sticker issue to Yamaha. They shouldn't be selling returns or floor models as new.

I have the RX-V1500 that i bought over the summer and although it wasn't something i paid much attention to at the time I am "pretty sure" that it had all the stickers and everything on it that you generally absent-mindedly take off and discard immediately.

And as others have said it's not upconversion in the sense that the source signal is somehow improved, but rather it is able to convert the signal from one source to another to help in simplifying connections. (at least that's my understanding but my television needs to be upgraded before I'd be able to tell the difference between s-video and composite anyway)

I don't remember mine having any protective transparent films on my receiver display. Only on the remote's LCD screen.

As for stickers, mine had 2. One YPAO or something at the lower left corner, and one 130Wx7 at the upper right.
