I recently purchased a yamie 1500 and I have read in a few threads that I may have problems running speakers that are 4ohm's...so far I have had no problems (dynaudio audience 52's and a 122c center) but....am I looking for trouble down the line?...I think there is a switch in the back that goes to 6ohm..should I change that?...I can still return the amp...I hope...what do you guys/gals think???

You should be fine. Watch the volume ;) and try and use a higher crossover point such as 80hz to preserve power. With those speakers however you would be best served at looking into an external amp to get the best from those speakers. You will really notice the difference when you turn things up. Your speakers really like the juice. :p The Yamaha would be an outstanding pre- amp / processor. Try looking at Rotel, Parasound, Adcom, Outlaw are just a few. There are many other companies amps.

I think the going opinion on impedance switches is to leave them at 8ohms regardless of impedance. I could be mistaken.

Leave it set to 8ohm. It should be fine. Just watch long periods of jamming. If it does not go into protection mode, just note the level, and try not to jam that loud again. An external amp would be a great idea now or down the road. I have a Yamaha 1400 with 5-channels all 4ohm. The receiver never shut down over a period of about three months. Then, wanting more detail, I added a Adcom 5-channel amp and now use my 1400 as a pre-pro. It will blow you away. BUT, it was fine running the system on it's on.

Thanks for the info....I am trying to sell the speakers but, at least I know I'm good to go if they don't sell. How much power do you think I need to run those speakers properly?

Not so much really a matter of watts but more a matter of current. Anything with 100 watts or more should be good. Why sell those speakers there great ?

I was just told by a PM it's called WAF(wife acceptance factor) my daughter is now crawling/climbing and she almost knocked em off the stand. the wife has said they now have to go:( they are in the buy sell forum...I have to get in/on wall speakers with no visible speaker wire (she likes to pull that too)Did I mention they are for sale in the "for sale forum":)

You could always hang them, and run your speaker wire down to them.

I have exhausted all options...I have heard , they are ugly, too big, Do they have to sit on the stands, and the best was, This is not a frat house...oh well, for the sake of getting along I had to put em up for sale..the up/or down side is NOBODY want's em...If they don't sell Im not sure what I'm going to do..she did let me get the yammie so it's not all bad...Here is possibly a dumb question...I know speakers have a break in period..Do A/V recievers have a break in period? If so what is the best way to break in the Yammie? What kind of changes should I expect after break in?

No break-in. But, I spent over a year with speaker placement and set-up changes to achieve the sound I have today. It makes a huge difference to have proper system calibration and speaker placement. I learned all of that information here and am very thankful.

Your speakers should sell quickly. :)

Try not to let her make you a buy a silly lifestyle speaker system with 5 cute sats and a woofer. There are to many other alternatives to this. Just keep us posted and we will guide you. With any luck we can keep the pain to a minimum. Not your wife that is.

Cheers

ROFL....I will keep you all posted...My biggest fear is what happens if no one buys the speakers since she says they have to go...
