Yamaha RX-V1400 and presence/zone 2

I've read that you can turn on the zone 2 amp, hook up a pair of speakers to the presence jacks on the amp and be able to listen to a seperate source in zone 2 while using other material in zone 1. Is there any way to also have a subwoofer in both zones that would be independant of each other since there is only 1 subwoofer jack on the amp? I'm guessing not, and if not could you have a subwoofer in zone 2(connected by a Y off the amp) and while not using zone 1 would you get the bass in the sub in zone2? Maybe my best bet is to buy speakers for zone 2 that have integrated subwoofers or at least be full range?

I think the only way you'd be able to run a sub in a zone 2/3 type of configuration would be using the speaker inputs and built-in crossover on a powered sub that has them.

This would allow you to send a full range stereo signal to zone 2/3, then you could route the L/R speaker wire through the sub's built-in crossover via the speaker inputs, then back out to your speakers via the speaker outputs, again, assuming the sub has these (several still do). This would allow you to set the crosover point on the sub to handle anything you determine and send the rest of the signal to the L/R speakers... TD

I don't think that the Y connector would do you any good unless you wanted to hear the same thing in both zones.

The speakers with built in subs is a good idea. Also, most subs have connections for speaker level inputs/outputs. Although this is not best, it would work fairly well.

Thanks for the responses...sorta forgot about those speaker outputs on the sub.

One follow up note on this, Bob. Not all subs have the speaker inputs/outputs, so if you're looking for a new sub for the secondary zone, make sure it has these as well as a built-in crossover.

If you already have one you're relegating to second duty, hopefully it does have them... -TD
