Hi, there and I know this question may seem trivial but really, I think its an important one.

For 5.1 content in dolby and dts which is better- since you can't use them both at the same time:( - should you use the surround back or presence speakers. Well I have 7 speakers but if I did have another 2 and couldn't use them at the same time. Exactly what does the surround back do- from what I am informed is that it duplicates the surround left and right speakers and the dolby decoder puts sounds meant to be in the back rather then the side.

This all boils down to acoustics probably- I love the thought that the back- ie things sneaking up on you is interesting and would sound better especially when things aren't always sounding from the side.

However, I found out that the presence feature is interesting in which sounds were meant to be further in front of you. Acoustically speaking, is it better that humans were designed to hear sounds from the front instead of the rear. Sometimes people get confused I read that they mistake the back sound from the rear. In sony dynamic 8 channel sound or 7 without the sub, I read that 5 speakers are in the front and just 2 and the rear or side.

Judging by this a Dolby IIx playing a 5.1 movie- which would be a better option? Or for that matter in general, regardless of the living room or wherever, I need to know principlas, man did I wish I had the more expensivey amaha- but I guess next time with Dolby HD, maybe.

Missmatch Presence Spekers V. Surround back

My main question rephrased would be whether it is better to have the presence or surround back speakers active, suppoisng you are playing dolby digital iix content, or just regular dts or dolby.

Sometimes people confuse sounds coming from the front as actually ones , coming from the back- Any audiophile or engineer - here to answer

Any of you guys design a room or work in a recording studio?

I have found that the front presence are very good for sports and DVD music. It keeps more of the sound in front of you and seems to widen the sound stage. But I prefer the rears when watching movies. I have them both set up and switch when needed.
