Yamaha RX series, online shopping, and warranties

From reading Yamaha's web site, it seems to state that you don't get a factory warranty when buying the RX series RX's online.

Can anyone clarify how this works?

To my knowledge there are virtually no authorized RXV online vendors. If you are looking to buy a Yamaha online the HTR series is your only choice.
Aside from cosmetics, method of power rating and other relatively small diferences, there is a parallel HTR unit up to the RXV1700/1600/1500.

Go Green Bay. At least they beat the cursed Vikings. (The previous poster had a GB icon, thus the aside.)

I did look at the top of the line HTR, thanks.

I am mostly sold on the Yamaha RX-V2700 and will probably buy that locally at MSRP. Look at it this way, it's a better use of money than drugs or simply putting it into a pile and igniting it :)

Online pricing

You might be able to use some of the online pricing to get a good deal from the local guy. Some people buy online and get an aftermarket warrenty, but I would recommend the authrized dealer route.

From a different thread, but related to the RX-V2700, I went ahead and purchased the receiver online with the extended warranty. My reasoning was that there are no local dealers that are close and for the money saved I took a chance and rolled the dice.

I really like the receiver and all its capabilities, but I have a couple of problems that I can't get resolved.

I plugged in a flash drive, but the unit keeps saying it is disconnected. Does anyone know if this takes a special usb device?

Second, I downloaded MS Medial Player 11 in order to get to the receiver over the network. I have shared the medial player per MS instructions, but it does not show any other devices on the network. I have 3 computers on the network and can see all of them through windows explorer, but not through the medial player. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Thanks

I resolved one problem, I used a new flash drive and put a few songs I had copied from a CD. The receiver picked it up fine and I was able to play the songs off the drive.

I was under the impression that you could show pictures, audio and whatever from the USB. The system only handles music and although it suppose to go several folders down it did not pick that up on my original flash drive.

I still cannot get it one network. There is obviously somethig I'm missing but I haven't found it yet. I have uninstalled media player 11 and put it back to 10 and then reinstalled 11, but that didn't work. None of the other computers show up. I'm stumped.

I couldn't use Media Player 11 to stream music to my xbox 360 like I should be able to... so I went back to using media player 10 and windows media connect and it works great. I think there are still some issues with media player 11. Did you check the box on media player 11 for file sharing?

I do have the box checked for file sharing. In fact I have mp11 on two computers and sharing files checked on both, but neither computer shows up in the device listing.
I unistalled 11 and went back to 10 but I couldn't find media connect. Is it still available?

Hi mates..;)

I was just wondering where could I find those RXV Yamaha units at any Newyork dealer/ distributor/vendor.

I was looking forward to get one of these 2 receivers : Rxv 2500 and thy RXv 2600..

I know both are just pretty similar in their preamp/processor/amp sections with nearly even power ratings/DSP modes/acoustic productions/audio performance/IO'S aside of the lately equipped HDMI in thy newer 2600 model.

But the main reasonable obstacle is:

WHERE ? WHICH local (authorized or unauthorized) stores are selling those?
 At what price range ?

Dayter,
I got my RX-V2700 from Butterflyphoto and had no trouble. Good price and no complaints for my single order. The reviews included some bad experiences for some people so I guess you have to decide what your level of possible disappointment is.

Anyways, the latest Tweeter's sale discounts are hard to beat..

Thanx compease for your advice, I do really appreciate it.

I'm quite sure nearly 95 % or even more of electronic units got from unauthorized dealers / distibutors are non-defective with little or no post-buy sequences of issues / artefacts / problems and so..

But somehow it's still risky..

What's gonna i any way defend me against falling in the depressive 5% categorized problematic units?

I think there's not, and most probably I wouldn't either find a decent guaranteed way to return my rights back. NO refund , expensive fixes , manufacturer deny and so on..

I hope the fact is not that blackish , but I'm quite afraid of it.

My first 2500 was defective -- all the front panel buttons were dead behind the door. It was kinda bizarre. I took it back, they swapped me a new one. I would have been pretty upset if i had to ship it back. Of course i paid $999 (summer '05).

I've also bought from nonauthorized dealers (Ikesound) for car audio. About 60% of the cost of retail, and i've had no problems. It's risk/reward.

GlocksRock,
I went back to MP10 and downloaded and installed Media Connect 2, but I still do not see any devices. I tried setting the network ip address to my computer in the Yamaha RX-V2700 but the amp still did not show up in devices. I originally set the ip address of the amp to one that is different from any of the other machines on the network, but that didn't work either. I'm stumped.
