Yamaha rx-a3020 firmware update

Trying to update the firmware on this, through an internet connection, but it will not connect to Yamaha.
They said could not be done that way, but the manual states it can.
Does anyone have any info on this issue?

Why do you need a firmware update? Can cause issues that don't exist now....

Did you compare current version to what the last update was?

yes its never been updated from the factory I can do it on a usb but over the net seems so much easier at least for me its several updates behind I just want to keep it current on things not sure what was updated in the last for sure I know my connection is working as I use net radio a bit may have to try the usb route

What I'm suggesting, though, is to look at the listing of things that each firmware update has addressed. If they don't affect your usage then why bother?

EZ to do.
The USB stick is the best way to do it. As Yamaha transfers the existing firmware to the USB stick before uploading the later revised firmware. This way if there is a problem for uploading the revised firmware the original existing firmware is easily restored... May take a little more time but IMHO a clever safety net by Yamaha...
