Hello folks,

I am about to use a 7.2 AV receiver, rated 120W, in 5.1 home-theatre set-up . Two front speakers are rated 150W RMS, the center rated 100W RMS, and two rear speakers rated 100W RMS. Do you think the receiver could handle above set-up ? Would the receiver be underpowered and generate clipping/distortion sound ?

AV receiver: Yamaha RX-A1060 (rated 120W)
Two front speakers: Monitor Bronze 6 (150W/8 ohms)
Center: Bronze center (100W/8 ohm)
Two rear speakers: Monitor Bronze 2 (100W/8 ohms)

In RX-A1060 specs it says power is rated 120W, is it rated 120W for each channel of 7 channels ?
If too much under-powered should I downgrade the 2 fronts to Bronze 5 which are rated at 120W ?

Thank you for your advice.

I think you misunderstand what wattage ratings on speakers are about (max ratings are more about melting point than sound quality)....your receiver will work fine with the speakers. The receiver can generate distortion if you twist the knob far enough, when you start hearing that, turn it down, problem solved. The avr is likely not rated 120w all channels driven, likely only rated at one or two channels being powered (look at the manufacturer's site or the manual for more detailed specs). As far as determining what spl levels an amp can reach with given speakers the speakers' sensitivity spec is more useful.
