When I use the remote to change the volume on my Yamaha stereo receiver, it has no display on the unit that gives you volume increments. I thought that was a little strange, but I chalked it up for being a 25 year old amp. Then I noticed that the remote doesn't actually change the volume. Only the the volume knob does that, but you can use the remote too. So, what is it doing? Here's what it's doing: it activates a motor that turns the volume knob up or down. I found that interesting.

It is like a perfect mix of manual and remote control seeing the knob move on its own must feel oddly satisfying. Vintage tech always has these unique quirks that modern Western devices miss. They really don’t make them like that anymore.
