Yamaha replacement remote

Just recently I put a Yamaha RXA1020 into service. I am still "playing" around with it as far as sound is concerned. One of the things that I have discovered that I don't like about the receiver is the remote. There must be 20 small buttons of the same size that occupy the bottom of the remote. There is no way to read them. I am considering trying a different Yamaha remote, possibly from the next level up . Has anyone ever tried this and was it successful? Or would I be better off buying a universal remote, Pronto or something?

Based on my experiences with previous Yamaha models, any of the Aventage remotes in the same series as yours will work. The only downside is that a remote from an upper tier receiver will probably have buttons that will have no function on your receiver. Check ebay for remotes – I’ve had good luck there.
