Disconnect the speaker cables from the back of the unit. If this fixes the problem it means the cables have a short or frayed wires somewhere.

Or, you have a speaker problem with a short. Or, if the amp turns off with the speaker cables disconnected, you have internal problems.

disconnect everything from it for a day or so. then try again.when reconnecting, connect 1 speaker/gadget at a time to see which one could be causing the problem, switch it on and if it doesnt go off, connect the next one until all is well. Good luck, im from the same problem with my HTR5890.

It sounds like something with the unit itself. Call yamaha. They may give you a few more troubleshooting ideas. Is it still under warranty? DONT OPEN THE UNIT. that could void the warranty. They will Instruct you on your next step. If its not under warranty, they will give you a suggested shop in your area to fix it. Good luck!
