Yamaha Receiver Question

I have recently picked up a Yamaha RX-V659 receiver and axiom speakers, a pair of M3's and VP100. i have two questions. 1st question: on the reciever on the bottom right of the display screen there are i guess blocks that light up with L C R Sub and the surrounds for what is hooked up. i have all 3 of my speakers hooked up and only the left and right light up not the center. I have also done the YPAO so sound does come out of the center speaker it just doesnt light up on the display. Am I missing a feature i need to activate or something. 2nd question: the volume starts at -70db and goes up. i don't start hearing sounds till around -50'ish. is that just my speakers not being able to hit a low frequency or is this normal?

Any help would be appreciated,
Matt

Those lights indicate what signal is coming in not what is going out of connected. The reason for the you only see two light is because you are connected to a stereo (2 channel) source. if you were to connect to a multi channel souce such as a 5.1 DVD you would see more lights present.

As far as the volume, Yes, that's normal.

Volume control on RXV659

Just picked one up and using with very efficient Klipsch speakers and very little volume at -50....my speakers have a 96 SPL level and yours about 90, so your situation is to be expected....newer receivers have very large range of volume adjustment vs old analog volume control where you were at 75% power at 9 O'clock.....I guess thats progress, but actually takes longer to get to average listening level with the remote....Your unit should be plenty loud at -15 in 15' x 20' x 10 listening room with 5 channels driven.

That's why we calibrate the volume so reference level equals zero. The numbers mean nothing until you do something similar to this...
