Does anyone have a copy of the Receiver Manager software for the RXV3900. I had it installed on my laptop but the hard drive crashed and I lost the software. I have contacted Yamaha but they are unable to locate the software on thier website so far. I found the software great for controlling my Home Theatre and hope there is a copy available somewhere out there!

Hi, Cruzin.

Thanks to some Googling and this site here, you can download that software directly at the link here.

I tried the link to test it, and it downloaded the file just fine.

Receiver Manager Question...

Hi Adam,

I was wondering if you could help me out with the proper connection of the receiver manager software for the Yamaha RX A2000. I have the correct software and tried to connect but it never works. My receiver is on the network because I can use web control thru my browser and I can connect to all the music services offered Pandora, Rhapsody, etc... I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Can it work wirelessly or does it have to be hard wired only. The sofware open fine and the wizard starts but it never opens up the Adapter Selector window so I can select the network based on the instructions in the manual. I would really like to get this working and can't understand why it's not.
Is there a setting on my computer that I have to change? I am connected to the internet with no problems.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Greg

Hi Greg,

Welcome to the forum! I don't have a Yamaha receiver that uses that software, but I've looked up some information and will try to help.

It says that it supports Windows XP, Vista, or 7. I'm going to assume that you're using one of those unless you say otherwise.

The manual for the software mentions using TCP on port 80. You'll want to make sure that Windows is set up to allow the software to go through the firewall, and that your wireless router (if applicable) is set up to allow traffic through port 80.

Although it's probably not the issue, there was a firmware update (v. 3.16) released last month. If you didn't get it, you might see if that helps.

I'll keep reading and see if I find anything else.

Router Questions

Hi Adam,

Thanks for the reply and the warm welcome :) Yes I am using Windows 7 Ultimate. I am using a (2) Linksys Cisco E2000 routers - one is the wireless router connected to my broadband modem and the other is set up as a bridge which is connected to the RX A2000. I know it's working because I can use the web control and all the internet radio networks are working properly.

You said to make sure my internet setting are set up to accept TCP on port 80. How do I do that? I looked all thru my router settings and could not find anything that says TCP or port 80. I also looked at my internet setting for Windows and didn't see anything wrong. Can you explain to me how to set this up.

I already updated to firmware 3.16 yesterday and that did not help. I am sure it has to be a setting issue because everything else seems to be working on the network.

I appreciate you taking the time out and trying to help me with this issue.

kind regards,
Greg

Hey Greg,

Always happy to help if I can! There are others here that probably know this better, but they might not be around on a Saturday.

You can check out this link from Microsoft that explain how to set up your Windows 7 firewall to allow that program to go through it.

Let me check on the routers - that might take a couple of minutes.

Because the receiver manager program doesn't list any available networks (if I understood you correctly), the firewall on the Windows side popped into my mind.

If setting up the firewall on Windows for that program doesn't fix it, you could try turning of the firewalls on your routers to check if that works. If it does work, then you'll know that it's worth learning how to open up port 80 on them. If it doesn't work, then the firewalls aren't the issue - and be sure to turn them back on. :)

(In case you don't have the manual for your routers, you can download a PDF version from Cisco at the link here.)

BTW, do you have a network cable that would reach your receiver? If so, it might be worth doing a wired connection and seeing if that works.

Hey Adam,

Thanks for super quick reply. Yes I do have a cable that would reach and I was going to try that as an option to see if it at least works this way but I can't leave it hard wired for good :). I am also going to try the firewall option you sent me. I am hoping that does the trick which does make sense as you stated.

Thanks for all the links you sent me I am sure they will come in handy.

I'll keep you posted...

Unfortunately the link you sent me about the Windows Firewall and my Firewall menus are a little bit different and I can't click add port because there isn't any button for that and I can't enter the name or change it to TCP or enter port 80 neither. All I can do is add the program to the list and that's it. I don't understand it. This link must be for an older version of Windows maybe Vista or XP but not for mine Windows 7 Ultimate. :(

If you add the program to the list, then you're golden. You only have to manually add the port number if you can't do that.

Well I did just add it to the list and still a no go. I even searched to see how you can make sure the port number is 80 and I did that and still a no go. The window just keeps coming up blank when trying to connect to the RX A2000. I will try and run a cable directly to the ethernet port on the baclk of the 2000 later today to see if that works but I doubt it...but who knows

Thanks for all your help hopefully between the two of us we can get this to work.

Sorry that didn't do it. I know how frustrating it can be when something doesn't work and there's nothing in the instructions to explain it.

Please let me know if the cable works - you have really interested in this. Thanks!

Hey Adam,

Just thought I let you know that I got it to work. I disabled my anti-virus and firewall that I use from ESET Security and launched the program and it saw it on the network and I was able to select it and it worked :D

I then enabled my anti-virus and firewall and all seems ok now but I am worried that when I close the application and re-launch it tomorrow or whenever I will get the same problem. I am not to sure on how to add this program to the safe list or did it do it automatically when I forced it to accept the application to open.

Thanks for all your help.

Excellent! I'm glad that you found the issue and were able to (at least temporarily) get around it.

I'm not familiar with the ESET software package. I'll be happy to research it later (perhaps tonight), but I don't have the time right now. Perhaps someone else here knows the answer?

Thanks Adam and if you find out anything on how to allow a program to be allowed behind the ESET Security ant-virus/firewall let me know please.

I would appreciate it. ;)
