Hello Gentlemen and Ladies too,

I currently run a Yamaha R S700 Receiver, rated for 100 Watts Per Channel. (100 watts x 2 (stereo) into 8 ohms (20-20,000 Hz) at 0.02% THD)

I want to power a Pair of B&WCM5 Speakers, with a recommended amplifier power rating of (30W to 120W into 8Q on unclipped programme)

I will not play these at concert level volumes, maybe somewhat loud. Most likely volumes will be in the mid to beginning upper range of volume.

I currently run a pair of B&W685 speakers.

I want to be sure I have enough clean power to produce great sound with the B&W CM5 speakers and was hoping my current Yamaha R S700 Receiver was enough. Any opinions?

Thanks!
Tom

How big is the room and how far are you sitting from the speakers?

The room is 18 x 18 and I will sit about 10 feet from the speakers. 10 feet max.

You should be ok as long as your not gonna get stupid with the volume control. However keep in mind the CM5 has a sensitivity of 88db and the impedance drops to 3.8 ohms. This might give the Yamaha a problem at really loud levels but should be ok with the scenario you describe.:)
