Yamaha "Pure Direct" mode?

I have an rxv-2500 that has pure direct mode. What exactly happens when I push that button that's not already happening in 2 channel mode.
In my opinion pure direct sounds much richer and is somewhat louder.

thanks

Pure Direct turns off all the signal processing and "miscallaneous" circuitry (like the video display) to give you the most direct signal from whatever your source happens to be. it will be as un-interefered-with as your speakers can make it. it's great for really well-recorded CD's. :)

It also turns off your subwoofer, if you have one, which is its only negative (but a very large negative indeed if you like your sub!).

I have an RX-V1 and it doesn't turn off the sub when processor direct is engaged. Maybe its different on mine but all it does is bypass the bass, treble, balance and bass extension controls eliminating any alteration of the original signal. Maybe the RX-V1's processor direct is different than the 2500's pure direct feature.

Does pure direct also bypass the eq setings of YPAO?

I think the answer to your question must be yes, Nate. This is from Clint's review: "Pure Direct puts the unit in 2-channel bypass mode with no sub output." Since the idea of the "bypass" is to bypass every possible thing for the cleanest possible signal, I'd think YPAO settings would be included. Just basic stereo out.

The sound difference is very noticable in pure direct mode. This just shows how much the signal is altered even in 2 ch stereo. I have no sub and have my bass going to the mains so I don't think the signal should be being altered in any way!? Is this true?

I am looking for the real answer to the question of whether there is a noticable difference between PURE direct mode and direct mode. It seems many Yamaha users complain there is a difference, and many Denon users say they can't hear a difference in their receivers. This makes me suspect the sound quality of Yamaha's DSP which would be kind of suprising. However I wanted to be more sure that there is a real sound difference.

Are the people who are saying there is a sound difference absolutely sure they have a perfectly flat EQ and that by switching to PURE direct mode is not just disabling the EQ and thinking its some improvement in sound quality. Also, can someone try to describe the difference? Is it just a difference in volume?
