Yamaha purchase from the net

I've been discussing prices for a Yamaha RX-V2500 receiver and paradigm speaker package from paradigm reseller. Knowing that Yamaha won't honor warranty from internet sales and knowing you can purchase a warranty from the same, is it considered safe? Pricegrabber has a dealer listed for $682 delivered to my house (w/o the warranty). My local dealer wants $895 but says that internet sellers are untrustworthy and they don't have to provide the same customer care (whatever that is). If the unit is new and authentic, there's little chance I'll need customer care w/i the warranty period. Most internet resellers allow a 30 day window for replacement dierctly through them anyway and I'd expect I'd experience any problems before that date. I've bought repeatedly through the internet and have been satisfied to date with the transactions. Should I be leary when it comes to purchasing the Yamaha at over a $200 savings from the net?

Hammer,

I purchased my RXV 2400 from an internet dealer (Dbuys.com) about two years ago ($200 savings)and have not had any problems with my reciever. I did purchase the MAC warranty from them for three years just to be safe. I have been very satisified on the build quality of Yamaha's. Like you, can't wait for the DVD S2500.

If is is a legit internet company and they have a return policy I would be comfortable with that. Also, make sure you read any reviews they may have on customer service.

Thanks CoolJ,

Ironically, the dealer's name is "Authorized Electronics". They say that Yamaha won't honor warranty but I think they offer one for about $50. Still a significant savings from authorized resellers. Pricegrabber Seller rating has them listed at 4 &1/2 stars out of 5 from customer reviews. Sounds like they do good business.

I got my v2500 from eTronics.com for a lot less too. I just couldn't pass up the savings. I got it with shipping and a 5 year MAC warrantee for over $150 less than what Tweeter was willing to sell it to me before Tax.

also, what made me get it online was the sales guy at Tweeter who acted like I was an idiot for even thinking about buying it from an unauthorized dealer. It wasn't like I went in there and had him help me for hours and then ended up going with an online dealer. I basically did all my own research and went in there and told him what the deal was. I would have paid $100 more to get it from a authorized dealer but the sales guy was an asshole and he lost a sale. All he had to do was give it to me for under $850 out the door and I would have got it at Tweeter.

Instead, I got it off eTronics for under $750 w/ MAC warrantee and shipping.

I take care of my stuff and use the receiver maybe 3 times a week to watch movies, so I am not too worried about it breaking. If so I lose it for a week or so and have to mail it somewhere to get fixed. It was a gamble I was willing to take.

I think someone else on this site got the v2500 from eTronics and had a lot of problems with thme and thier shipping.

More than likely any problems a receiver has will be evident from day one. You going to get defective unit from any maker from time to time. If you do chose to go the online route, just make sure they have a good return policy.

I Used Authorized Electronics....

to purchase my Yamaha 2500 about 2 months ago. The receiver was double boxed, tracking number was sent before hand, and it arrived safely. I haven't had a problem to date. I took a calculated risk in assuming I would not need warranty work as has been the case in just about every other hifi purchase I've made in the past 15-20 years. For me the cost savings was just too compelling. Good luck. Kevin

Got my 2500 from Etronics.com as well. Great experience and saved hundreds. Received double boxed had tracking numbers in advance. Admit I was concerned until it was in my hands but I would highly recommend them based on my experience. :)
