Yamaha power amp with av receiver

Hi there, new to the forum so apologies if i'm using this incorrectly. Having said that, I need some advice.

I currently have a RX-V679 Yamaha receiver that I have been using with some Sony speakers as a home theater. Had too good of a deal to pass up and bought a used Yamaha A-S801 power amplifier with a pair of B&W speakers and a Paradigm powered sub.

My issue is, I am trying to figure out how to connect my receiver to the amp so that whatever input I am using with my receiver, will come through on the B&W speakers (that are hooked into the A-S801 amp). My limited understanding and research has led me to believe that it cant be done if my receiver does not have pre outs (which it only has two for powered subs. There are none for any speakers).

Maybe I am totally on the wrong track or maybe i'm overthinking it but i am at a loss. I am not sure what else to include on here that could be of use to help but I would appreciate any advice.

Thanks for reading and I appreciate any help that anyone offers.

Your research is right, the V679 has no pre amp outputs for the main channels, and thus no connections for an outboard amplifier.

That is absolutely correct. You need a receiver with preouts. There is no workaround other then that. Until you upgrade the receiver you will have to power the B & Ws from your receiver.

As others said, I would just add that even if your avr has pre outs, there isn't much benefits doing it with the A-S801 because it does not have HT bypass or similar feature. So if you connect the pre outs to its line level input such as CD direct, you end up using two volume control circuitry/parts. It would work but not a good idea.

The Yamaha is not a power amp, it's an integrated amp. But either way you need an avr with pre-outs.
