Okay, well my Sony DVD player took a turn for the worse. Soooo, I need a new one. I am looking at two different players right now -

Yamaha DVS5751SL and the Denon DVD-556S. Both are around 129.99.

Which would you chose and why? You can see from my signature below that I have a Yamaha receiver already - sliver. If you have other recomendations in that price range (100 up to maybe 150.00  ) let me know - BUT IT HAS TO COME IN SLIVER

Thanks!

Basic DVD player recommendations

I'm in the same boat, I rented Munich last night and my old Toshiba kept stopping and starting half way thru the movie. I also need to buy a new DVD player soooooooon.

They sell both of these models at the local Best Buy store so it will be interesting to see which one the members like.

I have a normal CRT Sony TV, so I don't need a Upconversion or DivX.

Hi, I don't mean to respond to your question like I'm a whiz! You must consider if you buy a player with only 480i or 480p for current set-up then you will be upgrading again later, but if the player is respectible and gives
standard def and upscales with comp cables you will be set later to!

Would the OPPO DV971 be a good one to buy, it even comes with the comp cables that would come in handy if I upgrade my TV in the next couple years.

OPPO player is excellent choice comes with dvi cable no comp cable.Standard tv and oppo you would have to use comp cable thats not the way to go with this player. But others like the lg and panny and maybe pioneer can use comp cable to upscale to hi def later as well as great picture now with your sony tv in standard def 480i.
I DID A LOT OF READING WITH THE OPPO PLAYER MOST IF NOT ALL REVIEWS USED THE DVI BECAUSE COMP WITH THIS PLAYER IS AVG!!
I HOPE THIS HELPS BILL:)

Dear flex I'm not tring to sway or sell you these products.Bottem line its your choice I do own the oppo it's very good but connected via dvi direct to my tv.All I'm stating is this product is better supported with dvi not with comp which are analog but lg and some others do it with comp cables which your tv now supports and later will be good enough to use with any digital tv you buy.
ps: onlybestrated sell both oppo and lg take a look. GOOD LUCK

I've been doing some google searches and a lot of people speak very highly about the LG LDA-531.
Thanks for the info Billy, I would have never thought of buying an LG.
