Just happened on this site now I can't get off. I have a pair of NS 1000M's. Haven't used them in years. 1 or both tweeters got fried by too much Distortion or so said some guy I knew that was as a TV repairman. My kid who is now 22 turned up loudness or volume or something when he was 6 and I know 1 tweeter was bad. Old Nakamichi stuff drove it. All is vintage 77 or 78. Are the speakers worth fixing and are beryllium tweeters available anywhere?

Some people LOVE those speakers. Might be worth looking around eBay and whatnot for people selling them or parts.

Are speakers worth repairing?

They are worth fixing if anything EXCEPT the tweeters or crossovers are bad because they are no longer available. Replacement mid-range and woofers are available from Yamaha. That's the bad news, the good news is that I need a pair of woofers for mine - the magnets got separated in shipping - destroying both - are you interested in selling these in their current condition?

Tweeters are available at a premium from Yamaha Japan directly at a cost of $280 each. I have a pair but my NS-1000x have been running for over 15 years without any problems but then I the Yamaha amp I drive them with never gets near clipping volume.

They are absolutely legendary so I would keep them at any price, one of the most accurate yet musical speakers ever made.
