Yamaha network access

Hi everyone,

After I looked the different options of a possible quality sound system, I came across the RX-A710 (used and offordable on eBay) and understood I could right away configure and setup the system with the network, from either the app or the browser on PC (I dont have screen nor the remote).

But unfortunately I must have missed a detail.

What is the option I'm missing to access the unit ? I can see the IP supposedly the router has given the receiver but nothing else, can't make it recognized by the app, can't have the browser access the setup...

Find the IP address and type it in your browser address bar, then add /setup

Using the IP setup allows far more settings and it's much easier.

BTW- anyone who has a Yamaha MusicCast WXC-50 or WXA-50 can access the same setup screen if they want.

Unfortunately it's not working as I expected.
My next step I guess would be to access the info on a TV-screen and check IP info from within the receiver.
I don't think there is many options... Might it be the Web control corrupted ?
It's not working either with Control app on tablet.
I notice that the info listing is : 'Offline Device'' in the control panel of the router..

The DHCP and network standby features may be off. Reboot your router. Then follow the steps for making system settings changes using the front panel of the receiver. See if you can get to the network settings. If successful, run any available updates and then try logging in from a browser and see if the AV Controller app will work. Hope you work it out.

I have explored this ADVANCED SETUP through the Front display using front front panel buttons but I don't see how to access the Network Setting on the Front display. I need the TV-screen.
If I can borrow a TV screen and if I can use the front panel buttons to navigate then I should be good.

If not I will need to buy a remote (my mistake I didn't include that in this shipment all the way to central america)..

My error was to believe the default settings will be giving me access to the Network ''out of the box''... I mean the Yamaha web control is a great option for people knowing the potential of network/http access..

Did you try restoring the receiver’s settings to their default settings by selecting ALL? DHCP should be ON by default. If that is the issue, it should be fixed with a reset and the receiver should be network accessible while powered on.

If you haven't been using the User Manual for setup, you need to do that- Network connection is covered on page 68-

Do the reset and start over- this will also reset the network settings and once t hat has happened, you should have no problem with using the GUI. Don't use WiFi, hard wire it for setup. If your WiFi is adequate, use it after setup is complete.

Using the front panel is a royal PITA and it's really meant for getting some of the basics done before using the app or IP interfaces. Once you see the IP address, ping it using command prompt and if it times out, you may have a network issue or, worst case, the AVR has a problem but in that case, connect using WiFi and find the IP address, ping it again. If you see an IP address that starts with 169.xxx, you don't have a good connection.

The INIT worked and I have now finally access to the unit with web control center (no remote no screen) ! THANK YOU.

Opera can access no question: no http, https

On a local network? Why?

AVRs and other AV devices don't use http, etc- they find a friendly face, snog it and leave with an IP address and a smile. Before I posted the last time, I looked at the IP address of my MusicCast and it's just the numbers, nothing more.

There are a lot of protocols. DNLA for home use as example. You will be potentially getting into browser builds that will only support https as security needs increase.

Best practice is for those vendors putting a web server on their appliances to use https. I don't make the rules, just saying.

IoT devices are all the rage for turning into zombie DDOS clients btw.

I don't disagree, but many of these AV networking protocols are automatic- there may not be ANY setup, other than clicking on a box that identifies the devices. If there's any need to use port forwarding or have outside access via an app, the risks are obviously higher.

You're referring to the sources of the stream, right? I would hope THEY use secure addressing.

You got me there. All I know is I've had AVR's with a built in web server and they should be https for best practice.

But that's still on a local network, and not the web, which is where http/https are used to help find things. I don't know why an AVR would need that unless it was searching for files online. I may be wrong, but that's my understanding of it.
