Yamaha neohd, Zvox 580 & 2 speaker setup help

Hello All,
I just purchased a Zvox 580 3 days ago. Wow! Awesome sound. I also connected it to my Jamo subwoofer for extra bass.
I do not have a receiver but have the opportunity to get a Yamaha NeoHD 500
for a good price. I really don't know much about this " receiver " except what I've read on Yamaha's website. My question has to do with adding a pair of Definitive Technology Pro Monitor 800 speakers to this setup.
Firstly, do I really NEED a receiver or is there another way to incorporate these fine speakers into this system? ( my sub doesn't have terminals for speaker wires). Is is really worth it to add these speakers or should I just sell them on Craigslist and enjoy the Zvox with the sub as it is now?
Any other thoughts?
Thanks a lot. Michael K. New Jersey

Fred from ZVOX replies RE: ZVOX 580

I regret that you can not add together two different design speaker systems (regardless of type or brand). We design ZVOX systems as "stand alone" products. It is our assumption that a ZVOX Audio purchaser is looking for a single enclosure, easy to install way to get great sound. So each ZVOX Audio system has produces components of the Left Front, Center, Right Front and "surround" channels. So adding an additional surround receiver and individual speakers to handle specific surround channels really can't work. The "left channel" sound that the ZVOX makes and the "left channel" that the stand-alone speaker makes will probably sound fine when listened to alone. But the systems are different in relative phase to each other. If you play them both at the same time next to each other, some frequency ranges of the sound will cancel each other, leaving you with gaps in the overall frequency response. It's possible the mid bass could be gone or way too loud. This would happen if you tried to combine any two speaker systems in the same room. Different design speaker systems can't be "paired". The sound will not add constructively.

Thanks Fred.
I thought that would probably be the answer to my question. I would be, after all, defeating the entire purpose of purchasing the Zvox by adding additional speakers. So I'll go ahead and sell the Def Tech speakers on Craigslist.
You may remember me, Fred, you recently gave me ideas on how to boost the bass on my Zvox 555 system which I purchased about 3 weeks ago.
As you can see from my post here, my question concerns the Zvox 580.
Yeah, after reading all of the fantastic reviews on various sites regarding the 580, I decided to return the 555 and exchange it for the 580. The 555 was and IS a top quality system and I was very happy with it but when I heard the larger 580, that just " blew me away " and so I " upgraded! ".
Thanks again for your advice and for making the quality products that Zvox does.
