Yamaha Natural Sound - Older High End?

My Father-in-Law purchased a complete Yamaha set-up when he was stationed in Guam in the late 80's. He has asked me to sell it all for him, but I'm afraid he's going to be somewhat disappointed in the prices they will sell for. I have noticed that their power amps seem to have quite a following. Does anyone know of the best place to try and sell the components...Ebay, Audiogon or here? Also, any feedback on this equipment...values etc? Should I buy any of it? Here's a list of the components:

DT-60 Audio Timer
M-65 Amp
CDC-705 CD Player
CDX-720 CD Player
CX-800/U Pre-amp
KX-W900/U Cassette Deck
EQ-630 Equalizer
TX-900/U Tuner
Bose 601 Series III Speakers

I have no idea, but the best thing to do is to search for as many of those as you can on eBay and Audiogon and see how much they sold for.

Audiogon also has an "audio blue book" feature for a fee to look up the values of used gear. Never tried it, though.

You best bet would be eBay and also the classifieds at www.audiokarma.org where there are many more rabid Yamahaluvers like myself. The amp and pre amp are true Yamaha classics and the CD changer too is a well made unit, you won't have problem selling the Yamaha stuf, Bose I am quite unsure..................

The Tuner and Tape deck too are true classics, the tuner was quite advanced when launched and till today, remains a favorite of tuner fanatics, the Yamaha 3 head deck featured Dolby S with three head and Yamaha's patented Bias Trim feature.

Well, the Bose 601's are probably the best home theater speaker a person could ever have due to the reflective sound technology. Then the EQ is hard to match in sound quality and has a preset just for home theater....I have one, and no matter how I improve my home theater set up, there is nothing that can replace that EQ....especially for home theater !!

Theaters use certain types of speakers to create a peticular sound. Anyone with half a brain can replicate that sound. The point of the equipment is understanding all it can do, if we take the time to learn about the capabilities of different equipment. I have a receiver that has two channel capability that rivals Harmen Karmen and the best receivers produced back in the seventies with 135w per channel. Then my receiver has a surround sound system has a fine tuning ability to create a sound better than the theaters. But, a person has to have a high def box from DirectTV or Comcast and a killer stereo DVD player from Pioneer or something equivalent. My receiver is a benchmark in stereo technology a Pioneer VSX-D1S and I'm getting ready to hook up a Pioneer PLX-1000 to it, I'm using a pair of Cerwin Vega SR-15's and a pair of Bose 301's. Life is what you make it if you have the brains to figure it out !

Maybe some people don't understand that life is a construct and any situation can be created if your smart enough to pay attention to the details and find equipment where the different functions can be turned off when not needed. Then too, it's how a person defines their own abilities before the can understand the abilities of a piece of equipment.

I love how these internet trolls will dig deep to use any old thread to start up a war. Let's hope we're beyond that here.

Please, simply ignore this fool.

"Harmen karmen"??? Really? He could at least learn to spell it right, ya think?

How does this relate to the OP's question or anything other than you wanting to tell us what your gear is?

It reminds me of a friend that spent the summer in Japan as a student. She went to my daughter's daycare with a 10 minute show-n-tell presentation to tell them about her experience. At the end she asked if their were any questions and lots of hands went up. When she called on the various 3-4 year olds, she got "questions" like:
"We went to the lake with my grandpa last weekend"
"I got a tricycle for my birthday"
"My dad got a tatoo"
...and so forth...

She didn't consider that at 3-4 years old, many kids have an "it's all about me" mindset.
Of course, they had the excuse of being toddlers.

Actually...

I was responding to the OP's question and how his father in laws equipment could be used for surround sound. That the price of the equipment could be more valuable than he might think....then Whitey80 had to throw a snit about his inability to understand surround sound.....as he said TV is not theater. Then Markie Markw had throw an insult because he could not realize that I was schooling Whitey.
I am starting to think that allot of the users on this forum have a short attention span.

You deserved everything you got, and will probably get. Had you bothered to read the post you would find it is over ten years dead. I'm pretty sure he got his answers by now.

Here's one, just for you.

Well...

I guess five tours of duty in Iraq kind of wears on a person.

Jerk !

So did my time in Vietnam, but I didn't have a choice. You did.

But, thanks for your service, assuming it's true.

To have served in the military is a honorable thing.

To use that service to expect special treatment is less than honorable.

Either way, if your service has compromised your abilities, you certainly have my (and reasonably, our) sympathies.

Either way, we still have an expectation of relevance, truth, and accuracy when information is being presented.

No matter how many times I read the OP, I cannot find this question.

That makes two of us. o_O If he was trying to make a point, he lost it completely starting with the derogatory remarks such as "half a brain" etc..

Seems I was "getting schooled" there, from what I've been told.
