Hi Folks

I was reading a article on how Yamaha MX-A5000 rates it power per channel. Below is the quote

" With 2 or 5 channels driven, the MX-A5000 did exceedingly well pumping out 177 watts (2CH, .1% THD + N) and 138 watts (5CH, .1% THD + N) respectively. However once 7 channels were tested, the MX-A5000 went into current protection mode delivering only 78 watts at .1% THD + N. This was a bit odd since 138 x 5 = 690 watts is greater than 78 x 7 = 546 watts. The MX-A5000 was clearly current limiting once it detected 7 channels driving at high power."

My question is, in HT set up non of the independent power amps out put continuosly and
simultaneously like stereo music. so power should not drop per channel. Can some one explain this.

There is no constant power, it changes by the moment . Your front 3 in HT require the biggest draw from the amp, while surrounds are minimal. Typically your only using a few watts under normal listening levels.

Thanks for the reply...I guess Yamaha MX-A5000 can hanndle 11 channles without a distortion as I already running main fronts ( L and R ) through Yamaha S1100 power amp mode as it has main power in .
