Hi,

I'm on a $ 800.00 budget to get an A/V receiver+ speaker set+ cables.

I'm thinking about Yamaha HTR-5760 and a set of JBL SCS 200.7, which will take $700.00, leaving US$ 100.00 for all cables and wires.

Any thought on this system, or any other suggestions??

Thanks!

Did you get a chance to listen to the JBL? If you like them, it will serve you well. :) Hw could it not?

Depending on how much wiring you need, how complex or simle the setup that $100 for cables may be more than enough. Leftovers for movies :D

JBLs...not too sure!!!

I recently bought almost a similar configuration. The only thing different was that I bought the JBL SCS 136. I wasn't really impressed with the JBLs. I did not get the WOW effect with them!!! and recently replaced the JBLs with Athena Micra 6 and the speakers have made a world of difference. I am not sure of USD prices, but you should look at the Polk RM6700 with one of their subwoofers. I did hear these at Futureshop and I was really impressed. These retail at 699 CDN, so I am sure you should be able to find a great deal at crutchfield. You will also find good reviewes at cnet and the circuitcity site.

The Yamaha HTR5760 is an awesome receiver. No issues with it. Easy to use and loads of features. YPAO isn't too usefull though. Manual settings are better.

If you are looking for budget speakers that you can buy at your local CC/BB, you may want to consider the Infinity Primus 250's. Circuit City has a deal going on that you can get a pair of Primus 150 bookshelves for free with a set of floorstanders. Pick up a center channel and an inexpensive sub and you should be well within your budget. I think these are pretty good sounding speakers for the price.
