Yamaha IW470 or IW660

I'm new and trying to figure out a ht system for a new house I'm building. I had geek squad come out from Best Buy and they are recommending:
Yamaha Rx-A770BL receiver ($650)
Yamaha IW470 ($180 for pair) for front speakers
Yamaha IC600 ($150 for pair) for rear ceiling speakers
Polk T30 center speaker ($130)
Klipch R-10swi sub woofer ($300)

The receiver looks good at about $650, as I want the dual zone to also run some outside speakers
Yamaha also makes the IW660, which is the same in wall speaker but made with better materials.kevlar woofer, aluminum dome mid, and titanium tweeter. Does this provide better sound, and is it worth the extra money?
I think I will go with the IC800 for just a little more money then the 600. 8" vs 6" speaker.
The Polk center speaker and klipch sub seam fine.

Does anyone have any experience on the IW 470 vs the IW660?
Thanks

Welcome to Audioholics,

As for the receiver, I would rather recommend the Denon AVR-X4300H at $799 from Amazon.

It's a 9.2 channel AVR putting out 125 watts/ch at 8 ohms and, I am sure, it has a better power supply than that of the Yamaha. This is a real bargain if you can get it.

The AVR-X3300W, which is a 7.2 channel AVR, is a little less powerful with 105w/ch but would also be a good alternate choice at only $599 from Amazon as well.

For the speakers, refer to Post #5.

Is there a reason they recommended in wall dishes for L, R and rear? Is this a dedicated HT or a shared space?

How big is the room?

I had a look at bookshelf speakers in your projected budget.

For your front left and right speakers, I would suggest the Klipsh Reference R15-M Bookshelf pair at $224 from Amazon as well. This is a good value and the customer reviews are very positive indeed.

As for the center speaker, I suggest the Klipsh R-25C unit which slightly exceeds your projected outlay, but this would also better match the other Klipsh speakers.

Note that if you choose to get the Klipsh set of speakers, the Denon AVR-X3300W receiver should be powerful enough because these speakers have a high sensitivity. If you don't need 9 amplifying channels, you would then save money on the receiver which could be used to put on these more expensive speakers.

For a subwoofer, I would rather suggest the Fluance DB12 Sub for $300 also, which will perform better and deeper than the Klipsh: http://www.audioholics.com/subwoofer-reviews/fluance-db12

To tell you frankly, I wouldn't trust what a Geek Squad team mate is saying. Most of them don't know what they are talking about, and that goes for all large surface chain stores, not only BestBuy.

It's in a great room/living room, that is open to the kitchen and dining. Don't really have a choice with the rears, since the only place to put them would be in the ceiling.
As far as the fronts, it's just a wall that the tv will have a high/low set up.

I think I will get the 4300, as I also want to use it to power a couple speakers on my patio.

Side bar question, all I ever had at my old house was a 5.1 system. If I add 7 speakers to this new system for atmos, do I just get 2 more of the 8" in ceilings?

Have a look at the suggestions from Dolby:

I am happy to help you out. Keep us posted on your experience with the new gear.

Cheers,
I was wondering if it would get any better price towards thanksgiving, but maybe it won't. I see amazon and crutchfield alll have the same price $799. Is there any better places to buy from?
And thank you, I found the Dolby site with the 7.1.4 set up. I will follow that.

There are definitely no other sites with that low price. Note that the 4300 is last year's model and is discontinued from production. It's selling at 50% of its original MRSP. You cannot ask for more.

You might be able to get a cheaper one as a B Stock unit through Accessories4Less, but it will be a refurbished product.

Copy that, thanks. I don't mind the speakers being manufacture refurbished through accessories4less, but for some reason, I don't want the Denton unit that way.

We were planning on doing the in wall on the front speakers, for a cleaner look, then bookshelf type speakers, is that a bad thing?

Bookshelf speakers are preferable. You would definitely get better results and more flexibility with them. Please refer to Post #5 for my recommendation.

If your budget is limited at present, you could opt for the in-wall speakers as a starting step. Later on, you could get speaker towers for the main left and right speakers as a replacement.

So if I switch to tower style speakers, for the two fronts, what would your recommendations be?

I'm going to look into the sub you recommended, obviously the review makes it sound like a excellent choice for the $300 range

What I would recommend is the well rated Klipsch RP-280F Floor Standing speaker.

I suggest that you listen to a pair of them if you can before you make a decision, but I am confident that you will like them. You just have to look at the several reviews available on the web and on forums.

They are a little bit expensive on first thought, but they are solidly built by a company you can trust. I believe they are assembled in the US. They are worth every dollar spent and, I believe, they carry a 5 year warranty. An advantage with them is that the cabinets are Dolby Atmos ready for fitting RP-1405A Elevator Channel speakers on top later.

Those with the Denon AVR-X4300H receiver would give you an amazing performance. You can trust me.

Should the budget be a little tight, I would concentrate on the towers and postpone the purchase of the sub to a later date.

Keep us posted on your first impressions on the newly purchased gear.

Cheers,

Are you familiar with e klipsch R-28F? I saw Best Buy just put them at 50% off for Black Friday, as well as the R-12sw sub. Seams like a pretty good deal for $225 each

Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with the R-28F Model. That is most likely a discontinued model as I did not see it listed on the Klipsch website.
Ideally, you should be able to listen to them before deciding on buying them. However, when browsing through the web, I noticed that "Top Ten Reviews" rated it as the best floor standing speaker in its price range and they gave it a 2017 Gold Award.

In any case, I din't think that a Klipsch speaker will give you a bad performance. At 50% off, it is a bargain. It would be a + if you had the option to return them if you didn't like them.

BTW, did you get the Denon AVR?

It's on klipsch website listed for the $449 regular price, but it says it's sold out. I figured I can't go wrong for the half price, so I bought them before they were gone, and the sub. Now I only have the center speaker left. It's from Best Buy, so I can return if I don't like them. The only problem is my new house won't be done till the end of December, so I won't actually be able to put the whole system together till then.
Thanks for the look into them. I didn't know how trustworthy "top ten reviews" are.
