Hi. I am re-posting this message for a couple reasons. First, I still have this issue, and in my first posting I may not have been clear enough. Second since I am new to this forum, I need to post two more times before I can utilize private messages to individuals that have this same equipment. Sorry.

I have a Yamaha HTR 5740 and have successfully hooked a monitor to the monitor out video connections on the back of the unit. However, the users manual indicates that besides seeing the video on the monitor I should also be able to see (for a few seconds), the input selection, volume level, sound field selection, etc. that appears on the front display of the receiver (On Screen Display - OSD). My unit does not seem to show the OSD information. This is important to me because my unit is behind a wood door and I cannot see the units display, so I need it to project on the monitor to see what selections I am making from the remote. I have connected the TV to the Yamaha using both composite and component video cables with the same result: video comes through, but no OSD information. Does anyone know if there is a setting that I need to do, or is my unit somehow malfunctioning? Or is it that this feature is not available and the user's manual is wrong? Thanks for any input. JMP

There is a setting that needs to be engaged for this but I dont recall how to do it. I have a pretty busy morning but if you dont get an answer by this afternoon, I will look into my Yammy and figure it out for you.

Go into the option menu and set the "video conv." to "on", Set the "gray back" to "off", hit the "display" button on the remote. Continue to hit the "display" button to cycle through "display off", "short display" and "full display"

Remember you have to use component connections for this to work.

Thanks for the quick response. My Yamaha HTR 5740 does not have a video conversion option. (The HTR 5750 does). Instead it only "processes" on a straight through basis (i.e. composite video in/composite video out or component video in/component video out). It does have a display button on the remote though so I will try playing with that tonight.

Also it is interesting that you say I need component connections for this to work, as others have told me it only works with composite connections. I have both so i will try both to see if either does the trick. Thanks again, and if there is any other ionfor you have on this specific to the HTR 5740, it would be greatly appreciated. JMP
