Hi Audioholics Audience,

I have bought a Yamaha HTR-6230 receiver. The set-up of this unit is not at all very user friendly, even with the user manual. Can someone give me some advice regarding a couple things.

1. I learnt, after some trial and error that I needed an optical cable for the audio from my TV/sat box. I have a HDMI cable for the video image and when I mute the Yamaha receiver, the TV volume doesn't mute as well. Is there a way to set it up so that I can use the Yamaha receiver remote to mute both?

2. Related to #1, How do I program my TV remote code with the Yamaha remote so that I can control the TV/satellite box with the one remote? I have an LG Plasma tv and when I follow the instructions in the manual, nothing works.

Anyone else have these problems? Help.....

1. dont know why you would have the tv sound on with the receiver....they clash and generally produce an echo....use one or the other. Can simply hit mute button on tv remote if you dont want to get up.....
2 I believe that Yamaha has a very basic non programable remote....if it doesnt have a code for the box and or the tv, you may be out of luck and need an after market remote. Most of these remotes have a search function when the codes dont work, but I personally have had little luck with that programing function.

htr-6230 code for dish universal remote

This worked for me- on my dish remote I held down AUX button 3 seconds and entered 2646# as code (2 is only necessary if using AUX to control the remote). Now the volume works, but the on/off buttons are separate on the yamaha htr-6230. So it will power on via dish remote but not off. This is where you have to use LEARN remote feature described in dish manual . You can easily assign a button on the dish remote to be the OFF button. As well as any other functions on the htr 6230 remote you want transferred over to dish remote.
