Yamaha: HTR-6160 vs. RX-V663

While researching the best place to buy the RX-V663 I ran across dealers who only carry the HTR line, so I went to the Y. website and comared the two:

http://www.yamaha.com/yec/compare/Detail.html?compitem1=&compitem2=567572&compitem3=567571&CTID=5000200&VNM=LIVE&comp_items=567571&comp_items=567572&B_compare.x=9&B_compare.y=6

The only differences listed are: 663 has "Digital Top Art," and the 6160. As far as I have been able to learn this is just a marketing term for a design "philosophy" and probably isn't anything quantifiable at all and is PROBABLY the same "philosophy" used to design the 6160.

The only other difference is under the specifications and says that the 6160 is rated at 70W greater "Total Power (20 Hz -20Khz). 6160 = 735; 663 = 665. Also 6160 has an entry of RMS Output Power (1 Khz) of 110 w x 7 and the 663 has no entry.

Am I correct in assuming that these are actually IDENTICAL receivers and I can buy whichever one I find to be the best value?

TIA.

You are correct. They are identical. The HTR line is generally produced for internet and big box store sales.

The difference in power rating means nothing. Just different methods of testing.

Holy smokes...that's a great deal. Unfortunately I ordered one from Amazon a few hours ago for $365 shipped. Somebody will probably jump on this one.

Thanks anyway!

Hey, don't feel too bad. For $30 more, you'll get a brand new unit. In my book, that's worth it. :)

EDIT: I'm too slow in my typing. Cheapskete beat me to it!

EDIT 2: You must have got a smokin' deal somehow, because it comes up at $499 for me at Amazon.

EDIT 3: Never mind! I was thinking the 663, but it looks like you got the 6160 from Ace.

It depends where you are located. In Canada, the 6160 has no Zone 2 or 12v triggers. In the USA they appear to be the same.

Authorized dealers jr.com and 6ave.com are offering the 663 to AVS members for $350 shipped (Not posted on their sites ... you have to *PHONE* and ask for it)!!
